=== Blessings === | |||
The Three have invested each Lineage with a special Blessing to help them survive in the world, while also giving them a special set of skills to express themselves. These can range from innate knowledge, like that of the Gnomes’, having an innate understanding of energy conversion, to more physical effects, like the Orcs’ resistance to temperature and humidity, to more active skills like the Crystalkins’ ability to conjure shards of crystal with very little Resonance to use as tools and projectiles. These Blessings were given to the twenty seven original Lineages of Drakomere, thus as Lineages have split or merged, some Lineages have the same Blessing, and some have two.
=== Wards === | |||
When the Three created the world, Aberrations and divinities tried to claim it from them. After a hard fought war, the Three were able to maintain Drakomere under their care, and each of them put a Ward over the world to assist in its protection.
The First Ward, created by Bahumat, was meant as a strong protection to anything trying to enter the world. If a Creature attempted to enter the world of Drakomere, the First Ward would demand a great sum of their power, if this sum could not be provided then the Creature would either be repulsed or destroyed.
The Second Ward, created by Oroboros, was meant to hinder magical attacks on Drakomere. Due to the dream-like quality of the demiplane this Ward consists of, through Geneolurgy via superstition about dreams being prophetic in some form, sometimes a person is given a vision from the Second Ward of things to come.
The Third Ward, created by Tiamat, was meant to hunt down and capture anything that somehow managed to enter Drakomere. Known as the Citadel, a towering structure located near the Chaos, the Third Ward acts as a prison for anything encroaching on Drakomere. It has an incredibly powerful casing of all three tones of Abjuration, with the only way in being the Praetors and the only way out being a perilous descent through ever shifting floors as you are molded to fit more closely with the world of Drakomere. The Praetors of the Citadel are metallic humanoid constructs meant to hunt down those entering Drakomere, and then teleporting them to the Citadel, the only form of magic that can pierce its shroud.
Finally, all three of the dragon gods gave each of the Lineages a gift, a Blessing in order to mark them as belonging to Drakomere. If someone successfully leaves the Citadel, they will gain one of the twenty seven Blessings of the origin Lineages. These Blessings are sometimes called the Fourth Ward, even though this description isn’t quite accurate.
=== Incursions === | |||
Every 7,000 years in Drakomere, an Aberrant Incursion begins. Slowly Aberrations begin to filter into the world as its Wards begin to crack. This rate of Aberrations filtering into the world slowly increases as those who desire to control Drakomere get a greater grasp of the planet. Slowly those trying to get in become more visible as the sky turns redder and redder and tendrils wrapping around the sky become more and more visible.
Eventually a group of adventurers are raised to go find a way to stop this and find a way into the Soul of World, where the heart of the Aberrant infestation is located. After purging the rot, the heroes need to make a difficult sacrifice to end the Incursion. After this sacrifice has been made, most of the Aberrations invading die out within a few days, and the world is brought back into peace, starting the next Age. However, 7,000 years after the Incursion is removed, the next one begins.
